#ECHLDeadlineDay Team Previews

Winners and Losers from the ECHL Trade Deadline
WICHITA, Kan. – The 2020 ECHL trade deadline was set to go one of two ways: the sellers would sell and start stockpiling assets for the offseason, or the tight playoff races and influences from above would force teams to hold tight to what they had.

The ECHL Trade Deadline From a Player’s Perspective
Last #ECHLDeadlineDay, Weselowski was traded from Rapid City to Florida for forwards Jack Riley and Liam Britton.

2020 ECHL Trade Deadline Preview – Mountain Division
WICHITA, Kan. – A year after missing the Kelly Cup Playoffs, the Allen Americans became the first western conference team to punch their ticket Tuesday night in Tulsa. Elsewhere, perennial contenders, Utah and Idaho, are battling for the final home-ice spot, their spots in the playoffs all but ensured.

2020 ECHL Trade Deadline Preview – South Division
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The ECHL’s South Division continues to be very top-heavy, with South Carolina and Florida already punching their playoff tickets.

2020 ECHL Trade Deadline Preview – Central Division
INDIANAPOLIS – There is a reason the ECHL’s Central Division is referred to as a meat grinder.

2020 ECHL Trade Deadline Preview – North Division
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – After the Manchester Monarchs folded following the 2019 postseason, the ECHL North Division is now down to a competitive six-team setup.

F.A.Q.
This deadline comes before the ECHL deadline for a very important reason. According to Dan Petrino, Manager of Hockey Operations for the ECHL, since NHL/AHL contracted players are not property of an ECHL club, those players cannot be traded. However, If an NHL/AHL team wants to move one of their contracted players from one ECHL Member to another, they must do so by March 8th at 11:59 pm local time.
That phrase is something you see used with most trades in the ECHL, but what does it exactly mean? Petrino says future considerations refer to either a player or cash to be agreed upon at a later date. Those future considerations trades must be settled by June 13 at 3 pm Eastern Time.
The waiver wire in the ECHL works similarly to the waiver wire in other major professional sports. The waiver order is set weekly in the ECHL and the team with the worst percentage has the highest waiver priority, while the team with the best percentage has the last waiver priority. If a team makes a successful waiver claim during the week, they move to the bottom of the waiver priority until it resets again.
