SAN JOSE, Calif. – For the second straight contest, Jonny Brodzinski scored two goals as the San Jose Barracuda devoured the Iowa Wild, 5-1. Both of Brodzinski’s tallies came during a three-goal third-period that blew this contest open. Four San Jose players had two assists each in the contest. Sam Anas added his AHL leading 65th point for the Wild.
The Barracuda jumped out to a 1-0 lead just before the three-minute mark of the first. San Jose had been on an extended 5-on-3 power play when Cody McLeod came out of the box to give the Barracuda a single man advantage. However, the Barracuda capitalized six seconds later. Trevor Carrick had the puck along the blueline. He passed it down low to Maxim Letunov near the side of the net. He made a nice spin move before feeding Joachim Blichfield a behind-the-back pass to the other side of the net. Blichfield blasted in the one-timer for his 16th goal of the year.

Jonny Brodzinski: Scores 2 Goals for The Second Straight Contest
The one-goal lead held into the second when Evan Weinger extended the lead to two just before the four-minute mark. Ivan Chekhovich had the puck along the boards. He made a nice pass to Weinger in the slot, who fired a one-timer by Mat Robson for his eighth goal of the year.
The early goal to start each period continued as a theme into the third. At the 1:41 mark, Jeffrey Viel fired a shot that was knocked down by a Wild defender. However, the puck was loose just inside the right faceoff circle. Brodzinski swept in, corralled the puck then moved in, firing a shot that found its way through the pads of Robson for his 11th goal of the year.
After being shut down for the first 45 minutes of the contest, the Wild used their prolific power play to finally get one past netminder Josef Korenar. Brennan Menell had the puck near the blueline, passing it to Anas along the boards. He made a great one-touch pass to J.T. Brown at the top of the right faceoff circle, who fired a one-timer past the glove of Korenar for his ninth goal of the year.
The Wild had a little extra spring in their stride following the tally, but the Barracuda dampened those hopes with a pair of goals 25 seconds apart that sealed the victory. The first came at 12:16. Chekhovich passed the puck to Nick DeSimone at the blueline. He moved down the slot until he was about 20 feet from the net, then fired a shot that beat Robson over the shoulder.

Josef Korenar: Makes 33 Saves for the Victory
At the 12:41 mark, the lead became four. After Iowa turned the puck over in their own end, Viel fed the puck to Brodzinski, who fired a wrist shot that beat the Wild goaltender for his second goal of the contest and fourth in the last two games between these two teams. That made it 5-1, which would be the final.
Viel, Trevor Carrick, Chekhovich, and Letunov each had two assists for the San Jose Barracuda. Korenar made 33 saves for his 11th win of the season. Robson stopped 26 shots for Iowa.
The Wild head to Manitoba to take on the Moose on Saturday night. This will be game three of a six-game road trip that will see the team play two against the Moose. The puck drops at 6:00 pm.
