WASHINGTON, D.C. –  In the second signing in as many days, the Washington Capitals announced that the club has re-signed forward Daniel Sprong to a two-year, one-way contract on Friday afternoon.

After detailing a couple months ago that Washington could retain Sprong if the price was right, the Capitals $725,000 a year contract was a perfect match for both parties.

Sprong was acquired at the trade deadline last season as a way to boost the Hershey Bears for a playoff run that unfortunately didn’t transpire. The term of the deal means that Sprong will get an opportunity to shine at the NHL level with the Capitals, although it’s not impossible that he could find time in Hershey again. Sprong scored a goal and added five assists in five games played with the Bears prior to the season shutdown.

The 23 year-old joined the Bears after being acquired from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Christian Djoos, who similarly re-signed with the Ducks after the season being placed on hiatus. Sprong and fellow recent signing Brian Pinho had strong impressions with the Caps in training camp prior to the season restart, but only Pinho was able to get into game action. This leaves Shane Gersich, Connor Hobbs, and Lucas Johansen as the only remaining restricted free agents without contracts at this point.
