Greenville Adds Forward in Recent Deal

GREENVILLE, S.C. – On a warm Thursday morning in the middle of August, the Greenville Swamp Rabbits decided to drop some news. The team announced they had signed their 11th player for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Greenville adds to their forward depth that already is shaping up to hopefully see them make another Kelly Cup Playoff appearance. Who is the new signee? Let’s meet the newest Swamp Rabbit.

Welcome to Greenville, Nick Prkusic

The Swamp Rabbits added St. Albert, AB native forward Nick Prkusic to the upcoming ’23-24 roster. For those wondering, Prkusic did not play during the 2022-23 season due to him being an assistant coach for the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL.

The last team he dressed for was the Milestone Flyers of the QVHHL. For context, the QVHHL stands for the Qu’Appelle Valley Highway Hockey League. The “Highway Hockey League” is a senior men’s hockey league that is sanctioned by Hockey Saskatchewan and Hockey Canada.

Prkusic played in one game during the regular season for the Flyers, tallying only one point, an assist. In the playoffs, he played in two games, accumulating two assists. His last full season was back during the 2021-22 season for Robert Morris University. As the captain of the team that season, he tallied seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points in 24 games. The previous season, as the team’s captain for the first time, he managed 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in 34 games played.

It seems that Prkusic is no stranger to scoring goals and to being a playmaker for his team. Furthermore, having previous experience as a team leader could help Greenville as well. The only concern is not having played a full season in any capacity since 2020-21.

When asked to describe Prkusic, Swamp Rabbits General Manager and Head Coach Andrew Lord told Field Pass Hockey:

“We are excited about signing Prkusic. He is a big body, power forward who can play all three forward positions. We looked at Nick when he graduated but he obviously went into coaching. He is hungry to get back to the ice and sounds very ready for the start of the season. I’ve heard nothing but great things about his character and believe he will be a great addition to our culture. He was a leader and a go-to guy for Robert Morris and we are excited to see what he can do in Greenville.”

It will be very interesting to see how Lord and the Swamp Rabbits will use Prkusic this season. Prkusic will be an intriguing player to watch this year for his first professional season. It is never a bad thing to have a big-bodied power forward to help in all three areas of the ice. Hope to see a solid season from the St. Albert native and soon-to-be Greenville resident.
