ST. JOHN’S, NL – The list of former Growlers grew a little longer this week. Among those moving on includes forwards Brady Ferguson, Zach O’Brien and Marcus Power; while defenseman Michael Kapla has confirmed that he will not return.
FERGIE AND SLIDE!
Last week, Brady Ferguson announced he be joining Rögle BK of the Swedish Hockey League after spending the previous three seasons with the Maple Leafs organization. Last season, he registered 63 points in 57 ECHL games.
In a tweet, Ferguson expressed his gratitude towards his former club:
I wanted to express how thankful I am for the opportunity I had playing with the @TorontoMarlies and @NLGrowlers over the past two years. Winning the Kelly Cup was one of the best experiences of my hockey career. I will always consider St. John’s my home away from home.

Additionally, hometown hero Zach O’Brien won’t be returning to the Rock for the 2020-21 season, taking his talents to the DEL-2’s EV Landshut in Germany. O’Brien scored a combined 114 points through his two seasons as the Growlers’ assistant captain and won the MVP award in the 2019 Kelly Cup Playoffs after posting 29 points (16G, 13A) in 26 playoff games.
A POWER-FUL EXIT

Speaking of hometown heroes, Marcus Power will also pack his suitcases after spending two seasons with Newfoundland. Like O’Brien, Power will be in Landshut, Germany, playing for EV Landshut. Power posted 107 points (47G, 60A) through his tenure and back-to-back 50+ point seasons. This will be Marcus’ first time playing hockey for a team outside of Atlantic Canada.

Third-year pro Michael Kapla is also shipping off to Europe this summer, too. Kapla will be playing for Västerviks IK in the Allsvenskan league to during the 2020-21 season. Last season, the Wisconsin native spent 14 games with the Toronto Marles and another 34 games as the assistant captain of the Newfoundland Growlers. The 25-year-old posted 27 points (2G, 25A) and featured a +12 in 49 games between the AHL and ECHL during the 2019-20 campaign.
