Kyrou Hat Trick Helps Rampage Thrash Wild

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Jordan Kyrou scored his first career hat trick and Ville Husso made 27 saves as the San Antonio Rampage took the Iowa Wild to school Wednesday morning. With the win, the Rampage moved within one point of Iowa for second place in the Central Division standings.
The Wild controlled the tempo early, as much of the first five minutes of the contest was played in the San Antonio end. However, it would be the Rampage that would draw first blood.
At the five minute mark, San Antonio was able to set up inside the Iowa zone. The puck came back to Jake Walman at the point, who sent a pass across to Niko Mikkola. Mikkola skated in about 15 feet before firing a wrist shot that deflected off Kyrou and in for his sixth goal of the year. It was the sixth straight contest where the Rampage scored first.

Jordan Kyrou: Scores Hat Trick to Lead Rampage

The lead held through the first period, but Iowa would tie the score 2:35 into the second thanks to a power-play goal by Gerald Mayhew. Brennan Menell fired a hard wrister from the point that Mayhew deflected past Husso for his team-leading 13th goal of the year. For Menell, it was his fourth straight game with at least one assist.
The Wild had allowed just two power-play goals on the road all season, but they would give up two to the Rampage in the second period alone, with the first coming four minutes after Mayhew’s tally.
Just 16 seconds after Mayhew went off for holding, the Rampage won the draw in the Iowa end and was able to maintain possession. Derrick Pouliot passed the puck over to Kyrou at the point, who fired a wrist shot that sailed past Wild goaltender Dereck Bairbeau and in for his second goal of the game.
With 93 seconds left in the frame, Kyrou extended the lead to two with another power-play goal. Mitch Reinke had control of the puck along the right boards inside the Wild zone. He fired a pass across the crease to Kyrou who was just above the left faceoff circle. Kyrou wound up before blasting the slapshot past Baribeau, giving the Rampage their first hat trick since March of last year.
