INDEPENDENCE, Mo. – On June 12, the Kansas City Mavericks officially announced their schedule and protected list for the upcoming 2019-20 season. After being knocked out of the first round of their Kelly Cup run last season, the Mavs will come out hungry and looking to make some small adjustments for their next chance at the ultimate prize in their 11th season.
SCHEDULE
Keep an eye out for the #IsItOctoberYet hashtags, because October 11 opens the season in Tulsa. The home opener will take place the next night versus the Indy Fuel. The months of regular season hockey are as follows.
October 2019: Six Games
- Two away games, four home games
- Three Mountain Division games
November 2019: 13 Games
- Six away games, seven home games
- 12 Mountain Division games
December 2019: 13 Games
- Seven away games, six home games
- Six Mountain Division games
January 2020: 12 Games

Kansas City will see a lot of their Mountain Division rivals, facing Allen seven times, Rapid City six times, Wichita 17 times, Utah eight times, Tulsa 12 times, and Idaho five times.
PROTECTED LIST
The Mavericks also announced their protected list early on June 3 which included Mark Cooper, Loren Ulett, Joey Sides, C.J. Eick, Corey Durocher, Mike Panowyk, Rocco Carzo, Jared VanWormer, Greg Betzold, David Dziurzynski, Darian Dziurzynski, Shawn Pauly, Andrew Radjenovic, Matt Robertson, Brett Beauvais, Brayden Sherbinin, Cliff Watson, Neal Goff, Jordan Klimek, Nikolas Koberstein, Riley Sweeney, Nate Widman and Ben Halford.
CALGARY / STOCKTON CONTRACTS
If you are worried about players that are not on the list, consider that they are under Calgary Flames or Stockton Heat contracts.
- Zach Fischer was traded to the Rapid City Rush in the second half of the season. The Flames announced they will not be renewing his contract.
- Mason McDonald was under Flames contract for his last two seasons in Kansas City, but he is a restricted free agent going into this summer.
As far as the rest of the roster goes, there are a couple of weeks until the qualifying offers will be announced on June 30. A better idea of next season’s rosters will come after that announcement, and the trickle down from training camps in August will determine a preseason roster and final roster for the opening games.
