ROANOKE,Va- The SPHL President’s Cup final round continued in Roanoke Monday night. Both the Birmingham Bulls and Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs had a win each in the best-of-five series. Roanoke took the lead after the 5-4 win in overtime.
Birmingham scored first, as Carson Rose found the net, only to be answered by Roanoke a few minutes later by John Stampohar’s first pro-goal. That set the tone for the most of the game, with each team tying the score not long after the other took the lead. At the end of regulation, it was a 4-4 score.
After a 15 minute intermission, both teams hit the ice again. The Dawgs had been outshooting the Bulls all night. It was this persistence that gave them the win. It was Dominiks Marcinkevics with a feed from Matt O’Dea that scored the winning goal, taking the lead in the series, 2-1.
