TOLEDO, Ohio – Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals between the Idaho Steelheads and Toledo Walleye took place Saturday night at the Huntington Center. The Steelheads being up 3-1 in the series looked to close out the series and they did that by defeating the Walleye by a score of 5-1. The newly crowned Western Conference Champions the Steelheads eliminated the Walleye from the playoffs and punched their ticket to the Kelly Cup Finals.
Toledo struck first in the game, with a goal by Thomas Ebbing. The goal would become the last goal of the year for the Walleye as the Steelheads went on and scored five unanswered. The Steelheads Owen Headrick, had two goals and one assist. Headrick scored the game-winning and series-winning goal at the 18:34 mark of the first period. Adam Scheel saved 22 shots on 23 shots. The Steelheads chased the starting goalie for the Walleye out of the net after Sebastian Cossa gave up four goals on five shots. The Steelheads improved their playoff record to 12-4.
The Steelheads will face the Everblades in the Kelly Cup Finals.
