CINCINNATI, Ohio – On Wednesday night the visiting Kansas City Mavericks beat the Cincinnati Cyclones 4-3 in overtime.
The Mavericks opened the scoreboard 2:12 into the second with a goal by Theo Calvas. Cincinnati was able to tie the game before the first intermission thanks to a goal by Matt Berry, assisted by Zack Andrusiak.
Forty-nine seconds into the second period, the Cyclones went up by one when Lincoln Griffin found the back of the net, assisted by Louie Caporusso and Yushiro Hirano. A late goal by the Mavericks tied the game at 2-2 in the second period.
The local team retook the lead 8:45 into the final period with a goal by Jalen Smereck, his fifth of the season. With 2:24 remaining, Kansas City leveled up the game once again sending it to overtime. Pascal Laberge scored the winning goal for the Mavericks in a fastbreak with 54 seconds left in OT. Beck Warm had 25 saves, while Shane Starrett registered 38 for the Mavericks.
