MACON, Ga. – The Knoxville Ice Bears visited the Macon Mayhem on January 22, 2023 for a makeup game that was originally scheduled on December 23rd. The game was postponed due to weather and travel conditions. The Mayhem made the most of their lone January home game by marketing it as “Tighty Whitey Toss”. On this night fans will throw unused underwear and socks onto the ice after the first home team goal. All collected items are to be donated to Depaul USA’s Daybreak Day Resource Center in Macon.
On this night, team captain Caleb Cameron was recognized for setting a new record of most games played as a Macon Mayhem at 212.
The Knoxville Ice Bears were looking to continue their winning record over the Mayhem and started the game off accordingly. Knoxville entered the locker room for the first intermission with a 2 to 0 lead. Macon did respond midway through the second period when Jacob Ratcliffe found the back of the net. Mayhem fans covered the ice with underwear, socks, gloves, and other garments. After the items were collected and the ice was cleared, Knoxville continued their mission by adding another goal. Macon would not be denied however, as they were able to score two more times to tie the game. An exciting third period would see a pair of goals for both the Ice Bears and Mayhem. Knoxville would tally the go ahead goal with under 7 minutes remaining. Time would slip away before Macon could complete the comeback. The final score was 6 to 5 in favor of Knoxville.
