WORCESTER, Mass – The Maine Mariners visited Worcester for the final time this season to take on the Railers, who are barely clinging to the last playoff spot in the North Division.
The first period was an up-and-down-the-ice affair that ended with each team scoreless. The second period opened with the Railers netting two power play goals. The Mariners would tally three of their own and end the period with a 3-2 lead. The Mariners put the game away in the third period on a late goal, and the Railers pulled the goalie with three minutes left for the extra skater. A good collapsing Mariner defense combined with strong goaltending held the Railers off the scoreboard. The Railers held the advantage in shots on goal for the game, outshooting them 37-26, but the Mariners skated off with the 4-2 victory. The Railers take on the surging Adirondack Thunder in their last home game of the season Saturday evening in a must-win game.
