JACKSONVILLE, Fla – On Wednesday night, the Jacksonville Icemen took on the visiting Orlando Solar Bears. Jacksonville prevailed in overtime to take a 5-4 victory.
Orlando scored first just under five minutes into the game, with a power-play goal from Ross Olsson. Christopher Brown evened things up to end the first period tied at 1-1.
Second-period goals by Jacksonville’s Ara Nazarian and Brenden Harris gave the Icemen a 3-1 advantage.
Seven minutes into the third period, Hunter Fejes made it a one-goal game for Orlando, with the puck banking off an Icemen’s players skate and into the net. Jacksonville would answer back 10 seconds later on a goal by Luke Lynch to make it 4-2. Ross Olsson would get his second goal of the night, crashing the net at the 17.10 mark. Ten seconds later, a miscommunication by the Icemen’s defenseman and goaltender led to an Orlando goal by Joe Caroll to even things up and force the game into overtime.
The Icemen would start the overtime period on the power-play, carried over from the third period. Derek Lordemeier deflected the puck from Christopher Brown to score the game-winning goal at the 1:13 mark, giving the Icemen their fourth straight victory. Jacksonville has taken a 5-4 win in their last four consecutive games, and six out of the previous seven games, also have had a 5-4 final score.
