JACKSONVILLE, Fla – On Saturday night, the Savannah Ghost Pirates visited the Vystar Memorial Arena to face the Jacksonville Icemen. The Ghost Pirates had only visited Jacksonville for two preseason games held at the Icemen’s practice facility. Both teams wore specialty Dumb and Dumber-themed jerseys, with some Icemen staff members and Zamboni drivers also wearing orange and blue suits. The Ghost Pirates took a 3-2 victory over the Icemen.
The Ghost Pirates would score the only goal in the first period on a power-play goal from Brent Pederson. The Icemen’s Brandon Fortunato had a power-play goal to put Jacksonville on the board at the 2.25 mark of the second period and the even score. The 1-1 score would last all of 12 seconds before Savannah answered back with an even-strength goal by Marshall Moise. Tristan Thompson would also score for Savannah to put them up 3-1 by the end of the second period. In the third period and with over four minutes left in the game, Jacksonville opted to pull their netminder. A goal by Jacksonville’s captain Christopher Brown put the score within one again. Jacksonville was, however, unable to force the game to overtime with another goal in the closing minutes of the game, after taking a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty.
